Job Description

PCI is looking to add a hands-on chemical engineer with strong fundamentals, passion, and a desire to learn and grow in the field. This laboratory-based position will fulfill a critical role in our research group, and offers hands-on exposure to product development as well as an opportunity to interact with all aspects of a small business.

This person in this role will work on a broad variety of hands-on laboratory projects and assist with small-scale production for PCI products and prototypes in a well-documented environment.  Successful candidates will have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced R&D environment.  This is an excellent growth opportunity for an engineer looking to develop their skills and become a key contributor working towards important solutions in the clean energy field.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and test catalyst materials
  • Test fuel processors and oxidizers
  • Controls development and component evaluation
  • Test rig development and assembly
  • Controls logic development and debugging
  • Carefully document data to assess components and processes
  • Review and stay up to date with relevant technical literature
  • Gather and summarize test data for analysis and presentation to senior staff

 
Desired Skills/Experience:

  • BS in Chemical Engineering with 0–3 years’ industry experience.
  • Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, reactor design, heat transfer, fluid flow, mass and energy balance.
  • Solid understanding of chemical reaction kinetics and reactor design (e.g. - fuel processing, reforming, water gas shift, partial oxidation, sorption, etc.).
  • Familiarity with operating heterogeneous catalytic reactors and/or electrochemistry a plus.
  • Materials/catalyst lab-scale synthesis knowledge desirable.
  • Experience with LABVIEW, ASPEN/CHEMCAD, FLUENT/COMSOL software is preferred.
  • Experience with analytical techniques (gas chromatography, mass spectroscopy, etc.).
  • Experience with lab-scale instrumentation (temperature, pressure, and flow control).
  • Hands-on internship or co-op experience a plus.
  • Ability to think independently to allow further growth into independent research.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Able to work in a team environment to accomplish program goals, as well as working independently to accomplish assigned tasks to meet the target deadlines.
  • Working command of MS Office (Word, Excel).
